Buddhism is a kind of religion that does not purport to worship a creator or a God. The teachings of Buddhism is anchored on the principles of universality of truth and the fact that anybody could be elevated to the highest level of conscious and become just like Buddha the “enlightened one”.

Most of the core teachings of Buddhism revolve around the four nobles truths that explore human sufferings. The noble truths in the teachings of Buddha are the “Dukka”, the “samudaya”, the “nirodha” and the “magga”. According to the “dukka”, suffering exists. For the Buddhist, suffering is so real that it has become almost a universal truth. There are many sources of sufferings and some of them may failure, sickness, pain and the impermanence of pleasure. On the other hand, the “samudaya” is a reiteration of “dukka” where “samudaya” expresses that there is a cause for suffering. According to the teaching of Buddha, the causing of suffering may be the desire to have and control things. Where an individual covets a thing, such thing could cause him or her sufferings.

Where Buddhism talks about the existence of suffering and the cause of suffering, it also talks about the end of sufferings. “Nirodha” tells the truth that there is an ed to suffering and that suffering ceases when a person reaches a the highest plane of existence and experience the Nirvana or the final liberation. According to the teaching of Buddhism, when a person reaches Nirvana, he or she will no longer be attached to anything worldly and his or her mind would be completely free. On the other hand, the “magga” tells us that in order to be completely free from suffering, one must follow the Eightfold path.
