Buddhism as a Religion :

Like most religions around the world, Buddhism involves a journey into one self and finding the true meaning of ones existence. Buddhism involves a kind of spiritual development that is geared towards gaining Insight into the true nature of life. In finding ones true self, Buddhism believes in meditation as means of achieving enlightenment.

Buddhism is like most religions around the world that embraces different traditions but all Buddhist share common sets of fundamental belief that binds them together.
Buddhism is also know as Buddha Dharma meaning “the teachings of the awakened one” is not just a religious practice but also a practical philosophy. The focus of Buddhism is on the teaching of its founder, Gautama Buddha who lived in the Indian subcontinent somewhere around the middle of the 6th century B.C. to the early part of the 5th century B.C. According to Buddha “I teach one thing and one thing only; suffering and the end of suffering.” The teachings of Buddha would tell us that any person can follow his footsteps and can be enlightened through the study of his words or the “Dharma” and putting the “Dharma” into practice.

Throughout the years, the teaching of Buddhism spread to other parts of the world such as the Southeast and East Asia as well as the Central part of the Asian continent. As the years passed and as people start to migrate into other parts of the world, the teachings of Buddha can now be found in some areas of the United States and Europe.
